Welcome!

The Fremont Cultural Arts Council and the Fremont Photographic Society and Photogenesis photo clubs of Fremont enjoyed a wonderful reception and show for the 18th Annual Juried Photo Exhibit recently. 101 photos by 41 local photographers were selected by the judges from the 176 entries, based on Artistic Merit, Originality, Difficulty and Technical Aspects.

While any piece selected for the exhibit is a winner, a few were selected by the judges as being particularly outstanding.

1st prize winner, Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, New York

We regret to advise her many admirers and friends that Julianne Howe, award winning photographer, passed away recently.

Julianne had a discerning eye for the beauties of nature.

The F.C.A.C.'s mission is to further and support the practice and enjoyment of the fine arts in the Fremont community. In addition to active sponsorship of activities such as art in the schools, the Fremont Cultural Arts Council provides a "clearinghouse" for the Arts and other charitable and non-profit activities in the area, helping these organizations to avoid event scheduling conflicts and publishing a calendar of events via our newsletter, the Fremont Focus, and on this website.

Please call us at 510.794.7166 to let us know of your club's upcoming fundraisers, meetings, workshops, concerts, and other events.

The Wonderful Knitting Machine

A video documentary presentation by the
Fremont Cultural Arts Council
and
The Fremont Film Forum

Circular stocking knitting machines were developed shortly following the invention of other labor saving mechanical devices, such as the sewing machine. These ingenious machines were produced in a number of versions by several manufacturers by the late 1800's. Because stockings were so important to the health of troops fighting in the sodden trenches of France during World Ware One (1914-1918), the International Red Cross asked each of their divisions to provide knitted goods for the war effort, and offered circular sock knitting machines to those who would commit to making a minimum of 30 pairs of stockings for the troops.
